Elena Loper is an alt-folk singer-songwriter and guitarist based in Seattle, WA. Her music combines her soaring vocals with her intricate guitar picking and introspective writing. Her unique melodic sensibility is reminiscent of Joni Mitchell and a trans-Atlantic modality. Her sound is influenced by Irish and Americana folk music, along with alternative rock such as The Innocence Mission and Gillian Welch. Her music was described by Craig Shelburne of The Bluegrass Situation as being “understated and beautiful”.

Loper also sings, writes, and plays guitar in the Seattle duo Dravus House. She released her debut album with Dravus House in February 2019 at the Fremont Abbey in Seattle. The album was premiered digitally by The Bluegrass Situation, an international music blog for alternative and roots music.

A song Loper wrote and performed as her project Dravus House was featured in The Bluegrass Situation’s “Best Moments of 2019”:

Loper has toured Washington, California, Oregon, and Canada with Dravus House.

Loper has played live on the radio at KBCS in Washington, and receives frequent radio airplay on KBCS and KSER. She also performed live on television on the Seattle Channel's show Art Zone with Nancy Guppy in October of 2019.

The mood she creates with her melodies, acoustic fingerpicking, and lyric stylings is reminiscent of Alexi Murdoch, The Weepies, and Anias Mitchell. Loper’s lyrics range from introspective vulnerability to outward lamentations of and hopes for the world.

Press

“understated and beautiful.”

— Craig Shelburne of The Bluegrass Situation

“a resonant voice that time travels through stories of the soul, with a delicate dance between enchanting melodies and glistening guitar arrangements..”

— Ever Kipp of Tiny Human and Andi Scher

“Elena Loper injects Laurel Canyon grace & harmony on [her song] ‘Blue Canyon…’ Cozy up to the warm fingerpicking and beautifully woven melodies of Loper’s new single. Loper shows the restraint of an old pro, changing her vocal inflections at just the right times to let the steady guitar picking and winding melody drive you slowly through the heyday of Laurel Canyon.’’

Glide Magazine

‘‘Wonderful voice. Beautiful lyrics. [Loper’s music] inspires pure love and peace, with a bit of melancholy.’’

— Alessio Ansini, curator of Spotify’s Best Acoustic Guitar Songs
